Lizzie Thomson, Webster Groves High School (WGHS), “Putting the Practical Back into Practical Arts,” $2,500 (funded by the Class of 1959)

In 2010, WGHS business department launched a new semester-long course entitled “Entrepreneurship.”  The course was designed to teach basic business concepts; to have students collaborate on small-scale tasks with local businesses; and to give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a hands-on, experiential manner by creating and implementing a small business of their own at school.  After the  pilot course, it was determined that while students saw immense value and opportunity to utilize experiential learning by creating a business of their This grant will provide the seed money necessary for students to launch their b own, they needed starting capital to develop a product or service.usinesses.
